National Living Wage

National Living Wage

From 1st April 2016 the Government’s new National Living Wage will become law. As a result all workers aged 25 and over will be legally entitled to at least £7.20 per hour.

The Government has suggested that Employers take four steps to make sure that they are ready for the change:

  • Check that they know who is eligible.
  • Take the appropriate payroll action.
  • Let their staff know about their new pay rate.
  • Check that staff under 25 are earning at least the right rate of National Minimum Wage.

Failure to pay the correct rate could lead to a penalty charge of up to £20,000 for each member of staff underpaid.
